GDN is a network of research and policy institutes that aim to facilitate the creation and application of new global knowledge about social and economic development issues. GDN works toward building research capacity in developing and transition economies through support of regionally-based research and cross-regional networking. 

Services:

• Offers funding opportunities for development-related research in the social sciences via grants and research competitions

• Hosts annual international conference on global development

• Offers free access to GDNet , an online searchable database of social science research articles (“Knowledge Base”)

• Provides online toolkits for accessing research funding as well as generating and sharing research

• Offers free online access to subscriber journals to researchers in low and middle income countries, as well as listings and links to free non-subscriber journals

IOG is a non-profit think tank that aims to provide an independent source of knowledge, research and advice on governance issues, both in Canada and internationally. IOG works with public and private partners to explore best practices in linking the conceptual and theoretical principles of governance to the world of everyday practice. 

Services:

• Offers online access to most IOG research reports, policy briefs, and roundtable summaries

• Customizes and hosts learning programs for information sharing, such as workshops, roundtables, seminars and professional development courses

IDRC supports local research efforts in developing countries that are working to solve critical development problems through progressive policy and technologies. IDRC identifies four research themes: Environment and Natural Resource Management, Information and Communication Technologies for Development, Innovation, Policy and Science, and Social and Economic Policy.

• Offers funding opportunities to researchers from developing countries for research on IDRC themes

• Supports students and nationals from developing countries involved in study on IDRC themes through training and awards

• Offers online access to the “In Focus Collection,” websites on selected IDRC activities/sustainable development issues

• Offers online access to IDRC publications, including project reports and editorials
